A skin cancer survivor is hoping to give something back to those who helped him by running the London Marathon in aid of the British Skin Foundation.

Liam Smith, of Broomfield Street, Poplar, was diagnosed with the disease at just 19, but has gone on to make a full recovery.

Now he wants to repay the help provided by the British Skin Foundation by raising £700 for the organisation and running the marathon.

The 28-year-old said: “I received fantastic care and support at the time and now I am fit and healthy again I thought this could be a way of giving something back.”

“By running the London Marathon, I am able to raise money for further research into life-saving treatments for future sufferers.”

The 26.2 mile race will be held on Sunday, April 21.
