Cup exit harsh on League One leaders

Orient boss Russell Slade felt his side were hard done by after their Capital One Cup exit against Premier League Hull last night.

Robbie Brady’s extra-time goal earned the visitors a 1-0 win at Brisbane Road, after O’s had dominated during normal time.

Romain Vincelot went close in each half, with David Mooney putting a good headed chance wide.

But Brady struck in the 106th minute to settle the tie in the favour of Steve Bruce’s side, who had beaten O’s in an FA Cup replay last season.

Slade said: “To be fair to Steve, he was also saying he thought we deserved a little bit more than what we got.

“We just don’t seem to be able to get one over them do we, in some very tight games, but I’m very proud of the performance. It was a very good, strong performance.”

Slade withdrew striker Kevin Lisbie midway through the second half, with one eye on Saturday’s League One clash at Colchester.

And he is hoping all of his players recover from their cup exertions as they looked to extend their winning streak to a club record five matches at the Weston Homes Community Stadium.

He added; “I thought it was an okay cup-tie and there was some good things. Obviously there will be one or two who will be struggling perhaps on Thursday, but we’ll look after them and dust ourselves down and go again on Saturday.

“I don’t know the damage but I’ll speak with the medical department. I don’t think there’s anything serious, that’s the main thing.”

Marvin Bartley made his first start since joining on loan from Burnley and Slade revealed the club were in negotiations to extend his stay.

He said: “Marvin was just starting to feel heavy on that hamstring he had injured before he came to us, but I thought he did well for his first game.

“He played 70 minutes and can be reasonably pleased with that.”

Slade also had praise for the performances of young substitutes Johnny Gorman and Yohann Lasimant, adding: “That won’t do them any harm that extra experience, because they’ve had very little football at first-team level for one reason or another, so that will be good for them.”
