Two social enterprises in East London have landed �45,000 between them to help grow their businesses.

Enabling Enterprise, a community interest company in Bethnal Green providing work-experience for school-leavers, was given the cash towards taking on a new education manager to expand its programme across London.

Waltham Forest Recycling Project in Walthamstow has been awarded �30,000 to help expand its paint re-use scheme into 10 other London boroughs.

The cash was announced at today’s Santander ‘Breakthrough Live’ awards being held at the University of London’s Queen Mary college in Mile End. The event was for social enterprises to hear from business leaders sharing their knowledge and expertise on issues facing small firms.

The Breakthrough programme is earmarking up to �200 million for fast-growth companies to expand, while offering support including international trade missions not normally available to them.
