YOUNGSTERS with special educational needs didn't need any help getting home from their graduation ceremony in East London after completing a travel course with flying colours.
The 52 youngsters completed the 'independent travel' training programme run by Tower Hamlets Council to give them confidence to travel alone, helping their education, leisure and eventually to jobs.
The programme, which won a public service 'team of the year' award in 2007, is tailored to each one's needs and includes road safety, how to use public transport, reading timetables and identifying landmarks, all at their own pace.
