All competitors needed to enter this year’s Great Spitalfields Shrove Tuesday pancake race on was to dress up—or down—in funny costumes, get sponsored for charity and bring their own frying pan.

Alternative Arts which organised yesterday’s fun in aid of the Air Ambulance at the Royal London Hospital provided the pancakes to toss a couple of times en route.

But then they had to belt hell-for-leather in a mad dash to the finishing line.

The winning team received an engraved frying pan for their troubles!

But the real treat for competitors and spectators lining Dray Walk at the Old Truman Brewery in Brick Lane was the hot pancakes served at the end by a local Hungarian creperie, to the music of the Lost Marbles String Band with laughter and merriment from a bunch of clowns who turned up—baggy pants an all.
