Students from a school in Bow Common have raised more than £20,000 for charity.
The students at St Paul’s Way Trust School have been raising money for a number of charities, including a campaign in June 2017 to raise money to build a school for orphans in Syria, with the final amount raised amounting to £10,896.46.
That bought the total for the 2017/18 academic year to £20,003.40.
Staff at the school encourage students to get involved in charitable campaigns in the belief that it helps students develop feelings of empathy, a sense of resilience and a unique chance to develop their teamwork, leadership and communication skills.
Year 13 student Tanvir Razzak said: “It is during such occasions that we see how compassionate and generous our community truly is.”
Executive headteacher, Phil Akerman said: “Student leadership has been at the centre of these charitable initiatives and it is wonderful to see our young people acting as confident and compassionate ‘global citizens’.”
