Staff evacuated from Canary Wharf office fire

OFFICE workers were evacuated from an office in Canary Wharf after a small fire broke out in an eight storey office block.

Four fire engines and around 20 firefighters tackled the small fire in the building on Cabot Square at about 9pm last night.

A small part of an air-conditioning unit in the office was damaged by fire. Around 30 people had been evacuated from the building before fire crews arrived at the scene.

Crews from Millwall, Poplar and Shadwell fire stations were at the scene and the fire was put out by 10.44pm.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by experts.
