Elderly residents at a nursing home in London’s East End are learning about recycling and how to stop waste.
They took part in a recycling arts and crafts workshop at Stepney’s Hawthorn Green home as part of an energy efficiency project.
The workshop “turning trash to treasure” was staged by the by the Phakama youth inter-generation arts charity.
Young members of the charity arrived last Friday to show the elderly how to transform plastic carrier bags into keepsakes such as doilies and placemats.
The home’s manager, Phidelima Ajao, said: “We are looking for ways to be as energy efficient and as environmentally-friendly as possible.”
The home in Redman’s Road, Stepney Green, played host to the workshop to help reduce its energy usage, as part of a series of monthly events to reduce waste and limit impact on the surrounding environment.
