O’s head coach happy to pick up another three points and hints he will make changes for next National League game

Leyton Orient head coach Steve Davis paid tribute to Maidstone United after watching his team defeat the Kent outfit 2-0 in the National League.

David Mooney netted the opener for O’s after an hour before substitute Rommy Boco added a second in additional time.

Orient didn’t have it all their own way though with Stones having a goal ruled out in the 89th minute when Delano Sam-Yorke smashed in after Charlie Grainger’s excellent save denied Joe Pigott.

The decision by the linesman to rule the goal out kept O’s 1-0 up and they wrapped up the three points soon after.

Davis said: “Maidstone put us under a lot of pressure during the last 20 minutes hence the little change in system, which we had to deal with.

“They were very resilient and kept going and it wasn’t until the second goal that we all felt comfortable, but games in this league will be like that.

“I expect them to be tight and for teams to sit back and defend and make it difficult and they did that and had a good game plan.”

Although Davis was delighted to earn a second victory at Brisbane Road, he admitted he is just happy to win.

The Orient head coach believes the more points his team pick up in the opening month of the campaign the more it will settle any potential nerves.

“I am just happy to win. Whether it comes at home or away it doesn’t matter. We just want to try and win every game. It won’t always happen, but we will set out to win away as much as we win at home,” said Davis.

“It is about getting as many points as possible to settle people down and build more confidence and get the crowd behind you and we have been able to do that in the last few.”

For the third consecutive game the head coach retained faith with his starting XI, but he hinted that may change.

Orient head to Bromley on Tuesday and Davis conceded it is likely he will make some changes for that match, which will also be on a 3G pitch.

He added: “I thought one or two looked tired today and three or four when I spoke after came up to me and said they didn’t feel right or sharp.

“Maybe that is a bit of fatigue from the games, but it is difficult to make a change when you have such a good performance in the week because the team deserves to be out there the following game.

“We do have a good squad and some strong players able to come into the side if we want to change it and we will have a look at one or two tomorrow.

“We are back here for an hour and we will do a body count and see how people are feeling and maybe look at next week in a different way and make some changes.”
