Fire crews in east London are involved in a rescue operation following a collapsed roof with people reported trapped.

Special rescue crews stationed art East Ham have been sent to south London with crews from other areas to help in the operation at Clapham.

East London itself has only been mildly affected by this-morning’s storms.

A woman motorist had a narrow escape when tree branches crashed down onto her car.

The bonnet of her Audi was badly dented by the impact when the braches were blown down by gale force winds in Royal Albert Way in Silvertown at 6.40am.

But she managed to get out of the vehicle and was unhurt.

The accident outside the Newham Council Offices caused traffic congestion for half-a-mile along the A1020 by the Royal Docks, but firefighters from Silvertown have cleared the road.

Emergency crews from East Ham fire-station were called out at the same time when three trees crashed down in the winds in Woolwich Manor Way and nearby Baising Close. Several garden fences were damaged, but there were no injuries.

Fire crews at Bow were called to a house near Parnell Road where a rooftop aerial was blown down in the wind.
