Police in east London closed off a street at Canary Wharf this morning when scaffolding collapsed into the road during gale-force winds.
Part of the lower tier scaffolds and wooden fencing surrounding a construction site opposite the Hilton Hotel was wrenched from moorings holding it in place in Marsh Wall by Heron Quay.
Emergency fire crews at Shadwell were called in to make the area safe. The collapse narrowly missed pedestrians and vehicles. There were no injuries.
