Some trains have started running from Liverpool Street on the Chingford and Shenfield lines through east London.
A limited half-hourly service is operating through Bethnal Green, Cambridge Heath and Hackney Downs to Walthamstow and Chingford.
A restricted service every 20 minutes is also resuming form Liverpool Street through Stratford to Shenfield.
But most Greater Anglia services across east London, Essex and the East Coast are still suspended because of this-morning’s storms, including c2c Fenchurch Street trains to South Essex via Limehouse, West Ham and Barking.
Engineers have been making their way to the damaged parts of the rail system to assess what repairs are needed.
“We’ve been working with Network Rail to assess the damage to overhead wires and fallen trees or branches,” said a rail spokesman. “Wind speeds in some areas were too high for us to start making repairs to the overhead wires.”
