POSTAL workers across London are preparing for industrial action over cuts in services and threats to their jobs.
Staff at 159 offices and depots in East London and elsewhere in the capital are being balloted the Communication Workers Union over cutbacks planned by Royal Mail.
“The service to the public is being destroyed,” the union’s London spokesman Martin Walsh said today.
“Royal Mail is running down the service ahead of partial privatisation, eroding full-time jobs while managers continue to profit from fat cat’ bonuses and obscene rates of pay.”
The union accuses Royal Mail of a slash and burn’ policy in an attempt to “rubbish the system” to make privatisation look better.
