Kind-hearted students at a school in Bow Common have raised thousands of pounds for a number of charities over the last year.

The pupils at St Paul’s Way Trust School in St Paul’s Way, and their relatives took part in a variety of fundraising activities to collect a total of £15,860.07 in 2017.

This includes £7,200 which was raised in just one week for the Rohingya Refugee crisis in Myanmar.

The monies will help the refugees who are destitute and alone across the border in Bangladesh.

Tanvir Razzak, a Year 12 student, said: “I feel honoured and proud to have been able to coordinate such an inspiring week of events, which have led dozens of students to realise their potential to become leaders and active members of our ‘global community’.”

Phil Akerman, the school’s associate headteacher, added: “I am proud to see the way our whole school community has rallied behind this very worthy cause.

“Student leadership has been at the centre of this initiative and it is wonderful to see our young people acting as confident and compassionate ‘global citizens’.”
