A pop-up ‘swap shop’ for clothes opens for an evening in Poplar later this month where shoppers can get new gear without costing a penny.
All they have to do is drop off their old togs at The Cabin in Poplar, near the Blackwall Tunnel, in exchange for tokens to pay for whatever they fancy on offer.
“It’s a sustainable way to get funky new outfits when we’re strapped for cash,” organiser Jayne Clavering said. “This combats wasteful shopping habits while getting clothes free by swapping under-worn items for good second-hand clothes.”
Swappers are being invited to give £2 towards Women’s Environmental Network charity for its projects in London’s East End, similar to the last ‘swap shop’ held in November.
They can also stop for a cuppa or bowl of soup at a pop-up vegan café run by Men’s Cabin health group or a beer or wine from Brownfield’s social club bar.
The Thursday night ‘swap shop’ is on May 25 at The Cabin at 82 St Leonard’s Road, organised by Poplar Harca housing organisation, 6-9pm.
