SANDWICH lady Sylvia Watts has been presented with a certificate for 30 years' service making sure seamen in London's East End are well fed after their world maritime travels.
The 67-year-old catering assistant was recognised for her work preparing breakfast and making sandwiches at the Queen Victoria Seamen's Rest in Poplar's East India Dock Road.
She was presented with a certificate by Government minister Jim Fitzpatrick, Poplar's MP, who turned up to meet her.
The Seamen's Rest has been going since 1843, providing shelter for retired seafarers, servicemen and nowadays the homeless.
