A teacher from a Bow school is still in hospital after an 'horrific and evil' attack by a gang of Asian youths.
Gary Smith, 37, who teaches religious studies at Central Foundation School for Girls, was attacked by the gang at 8.20am on Monday July 12.
Initially, officers treated his attack as a robbery but have since upgraded the investigation to attempted murder because of the extent of Gary's injuries.
Since being in hospital he has had three operations to repair the damage to his face. Police refused to release pictures of Gary after the attack, describing them as 'too graphic.'
Heather Smith, Gary's mother, has been to visit him every day in hospital.
She said: "When they took me in to see him I didn't recognise him because his injuries were so bad."
Information about the attack can be passed to Tower Hamlets CID on 0208 217 6650 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
