O’s head to Morecambe without Dean Cox, but Andy Hessenthaler will be hoping his squad can make it back-to-back wins in all competitions

Like last season, Leyton Orient will be without Dean Cox at the Globe Arena today when they take on Morecambe.

With Ian Hendon at the helm during the 2015/16 campaign, the O’s head coach made the decision to take the winger to Lancashire, but left him out of the match day squad on October 24.

Cox ended up watching the League Two fixture with the away supporters and saw his team beat the Shrimps 1-0.

But this time the 29-year-old won’t even be there with the east Londoners after he left the club by mutual consent on Thursday night.

It was a sorry way to see somebody regarded an Orient legend, by almost all of the supporters, depart.

Andy Hessenthaler will have to ensure the rest of his squad are focused, however, and ready for the battle ahead.

Morecambe have won four of their opening five matches in League Two this season and will provide a very tough test.

Paul McCallum scored twice on Tuesday night in the English Football League Trophy and could well retain his starting position.

Sandro Semedo played at left midfield in that game and with Cox gone, should remain in that role at Globe Arena.

Callum Kennedy would therefore stay at left-back while Hessenthaler has a decision to make over who partners Tom Parkes in the heart of defence.

Yvan Erichot has made a string of errors in recent matches, but Aron Pollock, only 18, may be on the substitutes bench again.

Jay Simpson has only played once this season against Stevenage on August 16 and helped inspire a 3-0 success.

Southend United tried to bring the forward to Roots Hall during the transfer window, but couldn’t come to agreement with O’s over a fee.

Therefore Simpson remains an Orient player, but he could well end up being ‘unavailable’ for selection again this weekend.
