A teenager has been found not guilty of murdering a 43-year-old woman after pleading insanity.

A judge at the Old Bailey sentenced the boy, 16, to an indefinite hospital order earlier today.

Police were called to Sandall House, Daling Way, Bow, shortly before 11am on the morning of February 12 and found Fatima Bibi suffering severe head injuries and a wound to her chest.

Paramedics pronounced her dead a short while later. Officers arrested the youth at the scene and charged him with suspicion of murder.

A hammer and a pair of scissors were recovered from the address.
