Volunteers scoured the banks of the Thames at Leamouth Beach, filling two large baskets and a cage with rubbish including tyres, metal and glass.

The group did not find anything of historical importance - just a lot of crabs, said Aimee Felus, Thames21 Lea River Park community engagement manager.

This was the second time that an environmental charity Thames21 has cleaned Leamouth Beach. In March, they ran out of time to clean the whole beach so they went back again last Tuesday.

Their next clean-up will be on Saturday (May 29) in Bow Lock to clean the Limehouse Cut from 10am-3pm.
