Thousands of people have been left with little or no water in east London today, after a power problem with Thames Water.

Some schools in Tower Hamlets have been forced to close because of the incident which is also affecting parts of Hackney and Shoreditch.

The power has now been restored but it may take some time for the water supply to return, Thames Water said.

Thames Water said the following postcodes were affected by the outage:

E1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 8, 9, 14, 15, 77, 98, EC2A, EC3M, EC2M who may have no water or low pressure this morning.

Tower Hamlets council said the following schools have closed: Marion Richardson, Olga, Chisenhale, Thomas Buxton, Malmesbury, Kobi Nazrul, Wellington, Children’s House Nursery, Osmani and Morpeth.

More to follow.
