Nominations close today to elect a new neighbourhood council in London’s East End to run the Spitafields Forum public consultations on the future of the district.
The elections are being held at the forum’s open meeting at the Hanbury Hall next Tuesday.
The forum, which was set up last year as a public consultative body on planning issues, is currently holding online consultations on how people feel about living and working in Spitalfields, for its proposals to Tower Hamlets Council.
Some 800 people have clicked onto the survey so far, with 100 signing up to take an active part in the process.
“Those 100 between them have submitted 500 separate contributions,” the forum’s Headborough or chairman David Donoghue told the East London Advertiser.
“But we need more—we don’t want to let ‘the busy hundred’ speak for everyone else in Spitalfields on the future of our neighbourhood.”
Registration details for the survey are confidential and any comments and suggestions being used anonymously in the submissions to the town hall. A second, wider public consultation is planned next year.
The October 24 meeting to elect a new forum council for the next 12 months is being held at the Hanbury Hall in Hanbury Street, starting 7pm.
