Orient must beat Scunthorpe United first in next Tuesday’s second round replay at Glanford Park, although that date is subject to change

Leyton Orient were handed a great incentive to beat Scunthorpe United in next Tuesday’s FA Cup replay at Glanford Park last night (Monday) as they discovered who they would face in the third round of the competition.

The draw was made live on the BBC and the O’s were picked out to potentially face Premier League champions Chelsea if they can beat the Iron next week.

It is a plum draw for boss Ian Hendon and his team with many of the players already excited about the prospect of going to Stamford Bridge.

Fans took to Twitter to discuss the potential clash with the Blues with a mixture of caution and shock on the minds of many.

Orient must first beat Scunthorpe when they face the League One outfit for a 7.45 kick-off next Tuesday, but they did manage a victory at Glanford Park last year with Jobi McAnuff on target in a 2-1 win.

Although success at the Iron needs to occur before facing Chelsea, here is how people responded to the potential match at Stamford Bridge.

@PiersMorgan: Jeez, poor Chelsea, they just can’t catch a break. #FACup #OrientOrScunthorpe.

@BlairTurgott: First and foremost next Tuesday in the 2nd round replay!!

@OrientPete: Won the last two ties against Chelsea in the cup. 77-8 and 71-2.

@Frazer_Shaw: Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.. Wow.

@CharlieLong93: Not there yet but what a draw! #LOFC.

@ArfanAkram: The mighty @LeytonOrientFC could face @ChelseaFC in the 3rd round #Incentive #lofc.

@JacobRanson27: Be a beaut FA Cup tie if we beat Scunthorpe, away to Chelsea! #LOFC.

@Masters_JamesD: Chelsea away? And Jose thought it couldn’t get any worse… wait until he sees Ollie Palmer score the winner at Stamford Bridge… #lofc.

@Connor Essam: No better incentive to go and win our replay now! #lofc.

@ColinMunford: Wow! #LOFC.

@LeistonFC: Just think, if we had beaten Gloucester City, Staines Town, Leyton Orient & Scunthorpe we’d be facing Chelsea at Stamford Bridge #FACup.

@ElliotMByrne: The most frustrating part of this draw is that we will lose to Scunthorpe and I’ll be so much more gutted than I would have been!

@MrAButler: Chelsea in the third round of the FA Cup!?!? Definitely going to lose the replay against Scunthorpe. #lofc.

@PaulMcCallum45: Chelsea and I’m injured.

@BuchanJP: A win in the home tie would have been ideal, but playing away the pressure is on Scunny to win & that could help us.

@TayzerJNR: It’ll be a strange feeling if we beat Scunthorpe being the favourites in the 3rd round.

What an opportunity Orient have to create more memories in the FA Cup and the last time they faced a Premier League team in the competition they didn’t do too badly.

Back in the 2011/12 campaign the east Londoners were drawn against Arsenal in the fourth round and held the Gunners to a draw at Brisbane Road.

Jonathan Tehoue struck in the 89th minute to earn the O’s a 1-1 draw and a replay. Although they lost 5-0 at the Emirates, it was a fantastic memory for the club.

With Jose Mourinho under pressure could Orient pile more misery on Chelsea? We can dream, but first of all Hendon’s side must get past Scunthorpe. Let’s hope they can do it!
