A BURGLAR climbed over the back fence, in through an open patio door and stole 900 from a disabled pensioner as she went to answer a knock at the front door.
Cops think an accomplice rang the doorbell at the house in Barleycorn Way, off Narrow Street in Limehouse, in a bid to distract the 76-year-old woman so they could sneak in and steal her handbag around 5.15pm on Saturday.
When the victim returned to the sitting room she discovered that her handbag, containing around 900 in cash and some jewellery, had been stolen.
The suspect would have needed to climb over a number of fences to get to the rear of the house and police are appealing to anyone who may have seen something suspicious to contact Det Con Matthew Norton in the burglary squad on 020 8217 6689 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
