COPS may be winning the battle against thugs and thieves in London’s crime-ridden East End.
Police at Tower Hamlets—one of Britain’s most deprived areas—have recorded some of the biggest reductions in crime statistics across London, they revealed tonight.
They have also nabbed the highest number of criminals who have been brought to justice.
The East End has seen London’s biggest reduction in burglary in the past 12 months, which is down by almost a third over the same period a year ago.
GUNS SILENCED
Gun crime has dropped by almost 30 per cent, robbery and car thefts were down by nearly a quarter while opportunist’ thefts from vehicles slipped by almost a fifth.
Officers targeted thieves in one crime-busting operation using a decoy car.
Cops also saw success in tackling domestic violence and arrested more than eight-out-of-10 suspects at the scene of the crime.
Crime Overall in London fell by more than two per cent. There were 18,500 fewer crimes than in 2007-08. A whopping 17 per cent of that reduction was in Tower Hamlets alone.
