A bus driver escaped just in time when his double-decker burst into flame in east London during the night—captured in this amazing image.
The fire broker out while he was driving on the main A1261 Aspen Way, passing Canary Wharf.
Two emergency crews from Poplar and Millwall fire-stations nearby were at the scene within minutes, but too late to prevent the total destruction of the vehicle at 12.43am today.
There were no passengers on board, as the bus wasn’t in service. The driver just managed to stop in time and get clear before calling the Fire Brigade—which also received another 28 calls to its 999 control room from passers-by.
The blaze was brought under control after 50 minutes. Fire investigators believe it was accidental.
