SPECULATION was growing this morning that the result of the election could mark the end of the Respect party in Tower Hamlets.

As the ballot papers were still being verified, party activists were predicting that both George Galloway and Abjol Miah had missed out on the Westminster hot seats.

One Tory insider told the Advertiser he thought the loss for the Respect party could mark the end of the party in the borough.

While a Green party source said he believed residents in both constituencies had voted for Labour to keep Respect out.

Rumours were circulating that Lib Dem Jonathan Fryer was expecting to come third in the race for the Poplar and Limehouse seat - ahead of Mr Galloway.

While party activists were predicting Rushanara Ali would regain the Labour seat that was lost to Mr Galloway in the last election.
