AN ANTI-FASCIST march is going ahead in the East End today to celebrate the diversity of the community in Tower Hamlets.

Marcher will gather at Stepney Green Park from 12.30pm for a rally and will set off at 2pm to gather at Altab Ali Park in Whitechapel by 3pm.

The event has been organised by Unite Against Fascism and United East End.

Speakers at the event include the leader of Tower Hamlets council Helal Abbas, former council leader and fellow mayoral hopeful Lutfur Rahman and London Assembly member John Biggs who is also running for mayor.

Other speakers include Anas Altkriti, from the British Muslim Initiative, the Reverend Alan Green, the chairman of the Interfaith Forum, Christine Blower, general secretary, National Union of Teachers and Matt Wrack, general secretary, Fire Brigades Union.

Organisers hope the event will be a family day.
