The streets were awash with colour as the Boishakhi Mela parade made its way from Brick Lane to Bethnal Green to launch the biggest celebration of the Bengali New Year.
Thousand of revellers attended the free family Mela fun day in Weavers Field, yesterday which included entertainment by some of the biggest names in Bangla music.
Headline acts saw pop-rock band Miles wow the 45,000-strong crowd while folk singer Rinku, who flew in from Bangladesh, proved to be popular.
High voltage dance troupe Bolly Flex also put on a mesmerising display of entertainment on the main stage.
The event included a range of free activities including Bengali arts and crafts workshops and storytelling sessions at a dedicated family and arts zone while the ‘Kobita Corner’ allowed visitors to explore traditional and contemporary Bengali poetry and literature brought to life through talks and readings.
Active visitors enjoyed the sports and wellbeing zone, which included workouts for the body and mind.
