Thousands of new homes coming to ‘dilapidated pocket’ of Bromley-by-Bow

About 8,000 homes will be created in a major development of a “dilapidated pocket” of Bromley-by-Bow.
The three schemes currently in construction across Tower Hamlets promise “affordability” amid spiralling east London house prices, developers say.
Six firms are overhauling sites Sugar House Island, Danes Yard and Bow River Village.
“There is real investment going into changing a very low-grade, industrial environment into an amazing place to live,” said Andrew Cobden, managing director of developer Vastint UK.
The company is building on the 10-hectare Sugar House Island in Sugar House Lane, home to a Grade I-listed mill.
Oliver Boundy, director of new business at Southern Housing Group, who have committed to building “several hundred” homes at the site, said works were “making something great” out of “historically poorly-used industrial land”.
Details on how many of the thousands of new properties will be affordable or social housing is yet to be released, along with their price tags.
