A man who was set on fire during an attempted murder in Mile End Park has spoken of his joy at seeing the thugs who attacked him jailed for life.

Rizwan Ahmed, 25, was beaten and covered in lighter fluid during the brutal attack.

He was then set on fire by the three men and left to die, in November 2009.

Today at the Old Bailey, Jermaine Joseph, 23, of Ida Street, Shane Dedman, 21, of Pennyfields and Kieren Bruff, 22, of Merchant Street were each given 30 years.

The judge ordered they must serve a minimum of 15 years.

Mr Ahmed told the Advertiser: "I feel now that I can move on.

"I was confident going to court and I think justice has been done.

Det Insp Luke Marks of Tower Hamlets CID said: " This was a callous, violent and pre-mediated attack on Rizwan Ahmed.

"I would like to thank Mr Ahmed and his mother Miryam for the courage they have shown since the attack.

"I hope now they can rebuild their lives.
