GIRL, 15, HELD IN 'ILLEGAL DVD FACTORY' RAID
POLICE have busted an illegal DVD copying factory in a raid in which a schoolgirl was arrested. They uncovered an 'Aladdin's Cave' of illicit disks including porn in a raid on a first-floor flat in Stepney's Commercial-road. The flat had 95 DVD burners capable of making 60,000 knock off DVDs a week with a street value of £190,000, said cops.
HEALTH FEAR OVER GENETICALLY MODIFIED RICE
PUBLIC health bosses have issued a warning about 'genetically modified' rice being sold in the shops. Officials at Tower Hamlets have sent out 700 letters urging stores, wholesalers and importers to be aware that some rice and products from China may be contaminated with modified Bt63 organism.
MAN IN COURT CHARGED WITH MUM'S MURDER
A MAN accused of killing his mother has appeared in court. Marlon Wesley Mclure, 46, from Violet-road, Bow, was charged with the murder of 68-year-old Waveney Mclure when he appeared before Thames magistrates this morning (Thurs). Police were called at 3am on April 4 to a flat in Hoxton where she was found dying from head injuries.
HUGE GASWORKS FACE CLOSURE IN FIVE YEARS
THE massive Bromley-by-Bow gasworks could be closed down in the next five years. Talks have been going on between Thames Gateway Development and the National Grid to incorporate the site into a huge new park along the River Lea.
FAMILIES FLEE AS CAR CRASHES INTO BUILDING
TEENAGER Diego Delgado had a narrow escape when a car ploughed into his living room while watching Sunday's London Marathon on TV. It went through the wall of his ground-floor flat on Whitechapel's Collingwood estate and brought down bricks and masonry. Families above had to be evacuated from the building.
RAIDERS HOLD PUB STAFF AFTER MARATHON RACE
MASKED raiders threatened pub staff, including two women, with a 10ins knife and tied them up during a terrifying robbery ordeal. They burst into Booty's Bar in Narrow-street, Limehouse, as staff were closing on Sunday (April 13) after serving spectators who had been watching the London Marathon passing the premises, and escaped with several thousand pounds.
MARATHON 'RUNNER' GREG IS IN NO HURRY
FINALLY... the slowest man on earth is still plodding his way along the London Marathon route, which he began last Sunday. Greg Billingham doesn't reckon to finish the 26-mile course until this coming Sunday, one week later, in his record-breaking attempt to be the 'slowest marathon runner ever' to raise £2m for a children's charity.
