Ticket inspectors snare 70 fare dodgers

POLICE and ticket inspectors swooped on 15 buses in an operation in East London to catch fare dodgers.

The operation by six cops, six support officers and 10 inspectors took place on the A11 Bow Road—conveniently outside Thames Magistrates’ court.

It resulted in more than a-thousand passengers being checked and inspectors issuing 40 penalty fares at £50.

Thirty passengers were being reported for possible prosecution by the highways authority, Transport for London, for fare evasion. Police also made two arrests.

One of the targeted routes was the 25 bendy’ bus through Whitechapel and Mile End which has been subject to several fare dodge’ operations.
