TODDLERS and their mums have a new centre in their neighbourhood with the opening of Little Oaks.

It is the latest 'children and family' centre in London's East End, which opened last week in Columbia Road, Bethnal Green, following the centre which opened two miles away in Wapping last month.

It gives children under five and their families somewhere to learn and play together where parents can also use services like childcare, play facilities and support and advice on training and employment.

But last week's opening was more of a fun day for the kids, with face painting, story-telling and entertainment.

Little Oaks is open to families with children under five in the area. The centre is also home to Columbia Market's nursery school and Noah's Ark nursery, both providing early education and helping children prepare for their big move into primary school.

Tower Hamlets council is planning 24 children's centres across the East End by 2010.
