West Ham boss should have been replaced earlier in the year

Even after our draw against Blackburn I was optimistic we could stay up, but after Wolves beat West Brom on Sunday, it will take a hell of a lot for the Hammers to stay in the Premier League. We are in big trouble.

Last week I agreed with David Sullivan that the club’s chances of survival stood at around 25 per cent, now I’d say it’s about 10 per cent.

If you look at the table, West Ham are now four points from safety with two games left and even if we win our last two, it only takes Wolves to get a positive result against either Sunderland or Blackburn to condemn us to the drop.

From a positive point of view, you never quite know what is going to happen when it comes to West Ham and we can still stay up.

What disturbs me the most from the draw against Blackburn is the apparent lack of battle and desire, something for me is the very minimum requirement. As a professional footballer you should be up for every game let alone one so important as on Saturday.

I saw it from Wolves on Sunday. They put tackles in worked their socks off and got three points they deserved.

This lack of fight is in part due to the lack of inspirational leadership and players not standing up to be counted.

If you look at the players we have, there is no doubt in my mind that West Ham should be in mid-table.

There has been talk of Avram Grant going before next week’s game against Wigan, but in my mind it’s a case of padlocking the barn door after the horse has bolted. He should have gone in January.

I wouldn’t be against someone like say Tony Carr coming in, but for me it’s a bit ridiculous to talk about getting rid of Grant at this stage and it would be an act of desperation.

You can’t blame our current situation on the lack of trying during the transfer window.

I like many others were pleased with the acquisitions during the January transfer window and thought and hoped it would be enough to see us through.

However those signings have been a bit hot and cold.

Demba Ba started brilliantly but has been a bit inconsistent of late, while Robbie Keane has struggled with injuries and to find his best form. Wayne Bridge, his first game aside has been excellent and I have been really impressed with Gary O’Neil.

Sadly it seems that has not been enough and our last three home games have epitomised the disappointment of this campaign.
