Tower Bridge remained closed in both directions for hours yesterday following a serious incident involving a pedstrian and a motorcyclist.

London’s Air Ambulance was in attendance, as well as police and paramedics, and a spokesman for the Met said the pedestrian, a man in his 30s, was taken to an east London hospital where he is in a critical condition.

The motorcycle rider stopped at the scene of the collision, which took place around 2.50pm, but was not arrested, police confirmed.

The road was shut after the incident near Tooley Street, and Transport for London tweeted at 5.30pm on Tuesday to say: “Tower Bridge and Tower Bridge Road are still closed both ways between East Smithfield and Tooley Street due to and ongoing collision.”

Replying to another user it said: “Tower Bridge is likely to remain closed both ways until at least 7.30pm.”
