With just three days to go until this years London marathon, Tower Hamlets council officers have been busy making sure the route is in tip-top shape for the big event.
In advance of the marathon on Sunday, April 22, the council has inspected around 12 miles of roads and pavements looking for things like broken railings, potholes and uneven paving which could cause injury to runners or spectators and repaired any issues.
On the day, the council will work in teams from 4am with contractors to make sure traffic management runs smoothly. This includes placing an estimated 2,000 cones in position and arranging road closures and diversions.
Street cleaners will also be out in force as Tower Hamlets council works closely with contractors Veolia Environment Services, the waste services team with the task of cleaning the streets before and after the race.
