THE Town Hall has been recognised for its work in tackling child poverty in the East End.
Tower Hamlets council beat off competition from fellow boroughs to win the Corporate Commitment Award at the London Child Poverty Awards on Monday.
The awards, held at the Barbican Centre, aim to celebrate the efforts made by authorities and individuals in improving the lives of the capital's families.
And Tara Khanom, an Employment Advisor at the Lincoln and Burdett Children's Centre in Bow was picked out for her work with children and families from Mile End and Bromley-By-Bow.
She was presented with the runner-up prize for the Outstanding Practitioner Award for the training and employment service she offers to parents to help them find jobs.
Tower Hamlets council's strategy involves helping a thousand children out of poverty in the borough by March 2011.
