TOWER Hamlets council has been shortlisted for three government awards.

As part of the Government's new Local Innovation Awards programme which replaced the Beacon Awards, the borough is competing to be crowned the winner in three categories.

The council has been shortlisted in the Community Safety category for its work in tackling crime and anti-social behaviour with the Met Police.

The council has also been recognised for its work with NHS Tower Hamlets and is competing for the top spot in the Achieving More through Partnerships category for its stop smoking campaigns.

And if that wasn't enough, the Town Hall has also been shortlisted in the Taking Control of Care category for 'empowering adults to control their own care'.

The final results will be out next year following intensive judging.
