Tower Hamlets council is urging residents to make sure they choose a reputable tour operator if they are embarking on an annual Muslim pilgrimage.
The Hajj is a pilgrimage for Muslims to Mecca, Saudi Arabia, and is the largest pilgrimage in the world.
In recent years issues have arisen as bogus tour operators have falsely sold pilgrimages, leaving many people out of pocket and bitterly disappointed. Tower Hamlets Council has therefore produced a travel advice leaflet to help people avoid these pitfalls.
The leaflet, also available online, provides residents with information on booking trips, what to do before they leave and contact details to report any issues or find out more information.
The information can also be used to help Muslims book and organise Umrah – a smaller pilgrimage that can happen at anytime during the year.
