Tower Hamlets Council will provide a further 10 people with work experience from next month,

The Learning Disability Work Placement Scheme has supported disabled people across a range of departments.

Barry Duplock is one service user with learning disabilities. He has been working at Toby Lane contract services, helping with Meals on Wheels and school meals.

Barry said: “I was really excited to start work. I was a little nervous to start with but have really enjoyed my time so far and I am learning lots.”

Since launching in 2013, the council has placed 32 people with five people gaining paid employment after their first year.

Mayor Lutfur Rahman called the scheme “extremely rewarding, helping build confidence on an individual level.” He added: “We are thrilled to continue offering this scheme to provide unique opportunities and life-long skills.”
