A woman from Tower Hamlets who bounced back from homelessness rubbed shoulders with stars such as Tinie Tempah, Alesha Dixon and Mark Ronson at an event aimed at inspiring young people from difficult backgrounds.

Nicola Best, 27, shared her own experiences of turning her life around at “Against The Odds”, an event in Hackney organised by the Prince’s Trust.

Nicola had a troubled childhood and was homeless for a spell during her time at university. She talked about her experience of enrolling on the Prince’s Trust’s Team programme which aims to help young people acquire the skills they need to find employment.

The event aimned to highlight the problem of youth unemployment, which has resulted in a 104 per cent increase in young people claiming benefits in Tower Hamlets for more than six months since the start of the recession.
