The achievements of outstanding youngsters were celebrated at a glitzy awards ceremony this week.

Dozens of Tower Hamlets’ brightest and most inspirational young people were nominated for awards, with seven categories up for grabs.

Among the winners was Vivian Namagembe, who received the Samad Miah Award for Outstanding Achievement.

Vivian, who is deaf and has special needs, was recognised for her contribution to community projects and her volunteer work at Haileybury youth centre in Ben Jonson Road, Stepney.

Mayor of Tower Hamlets Lutfur Rahman described the awards as “our way of rewarding those who go above and beyond to put so much back into our local community.”

The glamorous celebration was held at the Britannia International Hotel in Marsh Wall, Canary Wharf on Tuesday.
