THE BRAVERY and professionalism of Tower Hamlets police is honoured at a commendation ceremony at The Tower today.

Officers who are being given public recognition for their work include PC Sukhdev Jeer who persuaded two suspects to hand themselves in on suspicion of killing a waiter at the Maida restaurant in Bethnal Green.

The two men were later sentenced to 12 years for manslaughter.

Police Community Support Officers Maria McGowen, Leanne Darby and Tina Howard tracked down and arrested suspects who were trying to break into a building in Stepney.

One of the men had sprayed a gas in the air which had an effect on the officers and one of them closed his car door on PCSO McGowen's fingers as he made his getaway but the trio managed to arrest the pair and bring them to justice.
