Children from boroughs surrounding the Olympic Park in Stratford are fundraising for those in need in Madagascar.

Pupils are being asked to create a campaign to raise money for Malagasy people who live in rural areas, and are badly affected by rainfall and cyclones.

Children from the winning campaign will earn themselves a ride in the Olympic Park’s ArcelorMittal Orbit and a go on a hovercraft.

The money raised will go to HoverAid, which provides aid to remote Madagascan communities. In May, 1,586 people were treated by the charity through medical safari clinics.

HoverAid wants to create an evaluation system for people to feedback on their experiences of the service. Many that receive healthcare are illiterate, so the system would need to be easy to use, obvious, and solar-powered.

Catherine Healey, CEO of HoverAid, said: “The work of our tremendous volunteers means we are able to carry on our work – we literally would not exist without their hard work and incredible generosity.

“We cannot wait to see the wacky ideas pupils have for fundraising and look forward to welcoming the student with the winning idea to the Orbit.”
