THE new chief executive of Tower Hamlets is to be paid 200,000, according to a recruitment ad on a public sector website.

The Town Hall notice posted on Public Technology describes the job as an “exceptional opportunity.”

Whoever lands the post replaces Martin Smith, who left Tower Hamlets amid rumours of a falling out with council leader Lutfur Rahman in July.

Mr Smith was paid 175,000—but the new chief exec will take home 15,000 more with a salary of 190,000.

The closing date for applications is September 17, with numbers being whittled down to a list by September 22 and a shortlist being selected by panel interview on October 9.
