Tower Hamlets residents in Globe Town create community garden
Residents have come together from estates across Globe Town to create a community garden.
Around 30 people turned out for an event last Sunday which saw residents from Victoria Park Estate including Merceron, Mulberry, Monfort, Evesham and Gretton Houses plant seeds for the garden.
But residents had already been busy over the past months building raised beds and growing produce such as tomatoes and runner beans for everyone to share.
Globe Town & Mile End councillor Amy Whitelock, who attended the event, said: “It’s fantastic to see residents coming together from across the estate to bring this garden to life.
Residents are not only growing fruit and vegetables, they’re growing a stronger community.”

Estate residents can become members of the community garden for �2 a year and then share in the work, e.g. the watering rota, and the produce.
The garden supported by councillors Whitelock and Bill Turner received funding from Capital Growth, a project between London Food Link, the Mayor of London Boris Johnson, and the Big Lottery’s Local Food Fund.
