Speaker of Tower Hamlets Council Cllr Rajib Ahmed is attending a Westminster ceremony to mark the 150th anniversary of the birth of Indian Hindu monk Swami Vivekananda.

Cllr Ahmed will be joined by the likes of Lib Dem deputy leader Simon Hughes MP to celebrate the life of one of India’s most revered spiritual leaders.

Mr Vivekananda is one of the founding fathers of yoga, preaching a message of tolerance and acceptance.

His influence on the lives of people living in both India and the west has been widely recognised, including by Prince Charles.

Monday’s celebration will be held from 6.30pm on the House of Commons’ Terrace Pavilion.
