TOWN Hall bosses have refuted claims this week that Tower Hamlets could soon be home to the first state Montessori school.
It was reported in a national newspaper that the Montessori Schools Association was considering the borough as a potential site for the new primary school which promotes more liberal teaching methods compared to the usual curriculum.
It would be the UK's first Montessori school where children are given the freedom to learn at their own pace and to choose their own topics.
But a Tower Hamlets council spokeswoman said: "We haven't been contacted by the Montessori Schools Association and it's not something that we have been considering."
The association is also reportedly considering Barking, Islington and Kensington and Chelsea as potential areas for the venture.
