A SINLGE system for motorists to pay for parking by mobile phone could soon be set up across the whole of London.
It would cover all 33 London boroughs in a single scheme where drivers would register their vehicle and payment details just once, for use wherever they are in the capital.
There are currently several arrangements in specific boroughs, but motorists need to register to use each one. Call charges vary.
But now London Councils, which represents all the local authorities, has come up with the scheme for drivers to for pay for parking by calling or texting a local-rate number with a reference code given to each space or bay.
Motorists would pay by credit or debit card, rather than search for change to put in parking meters.
